3-Dimensional Design I

This course will focus on incorporating the elements and principles of art into 3 dimensional design. Issues to consider when creating 3 dimensional artwork include: form, mass, plane, texture, space, and light. Students will create 3 dimensional pieces using a variety of materials and scales. Students in 3 dimensional design will apply their previously acquired art skills to work in a variety of mediums in order to create 3 dimensional works of art. This type of artwork requires a deeper thought and planning process because of the added relationship between the form and the space around it. Students will be encouraged to try a variety of options while executing a project and to make mistakes. Projects include installation pieces, relief sculptures, subtractive sculptures, and additive sculptures. Students will explore 3 dimensional works of art created by a variety of artists.
