Geometry

Geometry is a branch of mathematics that studies the shapes of objects. Students will be asked to interpret and reflect on our physical environment by developing reasoning and justification skills. Students will analyze characteristics and properties of two- and three- dimensional geometric shapes and develop mathematical arguments about geometric relationships. We will also use visualization, spatial reasoning, and geometric modeling to solve problems. Geometry skills include the use of logic and deduction in order to organize thinking and reasoning. Major topics include: points, lines, planes, and angles, deductive reasoning, parallel lines and planes, polygons/quadrilaterals, triangles, perimeter/area/volume, circles, mathematical reasoning and problem solving.
